Welcome to our first Flashback Friday post. Every Friday we will be taking a look back at a classic retro-game that holds a special place in our hearts. We will be sharing our memories and thoughts on the game and, if you want, you can actually buy the game from our new online store!
Ghosts 'N Goblins was originally an arcade release when it debuted in 1985, but soon found its way to the NES. It was on the NES that the game became famous (or maybe infamous is the better word...) for its unforgiving difficulty and high learning curve. I can remember getting upset with the game when I first played it some two-odd decades ago, and it wasn't until I was in my early-teens that I had the patience (or stubbornness, not sure which) to actually beat it. ....At least, I thought I had beat it; you have to actually play through the game twice to see the real ending, complete with its fantastically awful English. Despite its difficulty, I have a lot of fond gaming memories of Ghosts 'N Goblins; finally learning how to kill the Red Arremer enemies without too much difficulty and earning that second, real ending are the biggest standouts in my mind. I actually replayed this game recently, after watching Arino from Game Center CXchallenge it, and it is still just as hard, and just as fun, as I remembered it.
